Mia Hollywood is a Devon-based photographer specialising in portraiture and editorial work. Mia’s photographic practice has explored avenues with self-portraiture by staging her own cinematic film stills in her home environment, before switching the camera away from herself and using her aesthetic to capture other people in her photographic work.

In her recent project, The Cafe Series, Mia has captured the characters and interests of the people frequenting Prime Cafe Bar; her local coffee spot, as well as her place of work in Plymouth. After starting in 2021, Mia felt a strong sense of community between herself, the staff, and the customers in the cafe, with a combined passion for sharing stories and creative energy. Mia has always been drawn to cafe spaces and recognised a culture for creatives to get together, share ideas, and draw inspiration from one another. It became clear to Mia that she wanted to use photography to capture the essence of Prime and the wonderful people that visit the cafe. She has taken inspiration from American painter Edward Hopper to stage intimate portraits of the various people Mia has met over the past year in Prime. She has asked her subjects in her series to bring along personal items to reflect upon their unique qualities and interests. Mia hopes that The Cafe Series will celebrate their diverse characters and their unique stories.
